Say what you need to say

May 31st, 2009 by jon

If you’re like many pet owners, you spend a decent amount of time imagining what your littlest friend is thinking, pondering, complaining, and enthusing about.  You may have invented a ‘voice’ for your furry companion, and you may even keep a running commentary either in your mind or – as is the case with my husband and I – out loud.

Dan and I have a special Hero ‘voice’, and we often talk for him when we feel relatively certain that we know – clued in by his facial expression or body language – exactly what he’s ‘saying’ to or, as is often the case, about us.

Sockington, hard at work

You may know pets that have Facebook or My Space pages.   But do you know Sockington, the Twittering cat?  Are you part of Socks Army of devoted followers?  Do you tune in to hear about Sockington’s cat naps, litterbox use, and daily impressions?  You may want to consider following Socks on Twitter.  He’s billed as a modern day Garfield – a running, real time comic strip.

Or you may want to consider opening a Twitter account for your own sweet baby boy or girl – whether cat, dog, gerbil, or goldfish I’d be willing to bet your pet has an interesting point of view to share with family and friends!

The one word of caution I’d have for you?  Pets see it all – so be prepared!  Your pet probably knows all your deepest darkest secrets, your silliest quirks, and the truth behind what you do when you think no one is watching!  Make sure you maintain editorial power!!!

Welcome Laura and everyone else!!!

May 26th, 2009 by Amy

I would like to officially welcome Laura to the Uber Pet family. She will be a great asset and will have many a great stories to tell I am sure. Hero seems like a handful and to be honest..I’m scared to meet the little dude:) But a dog is a dog and I will love him no matter what!  How cute are the green bows. Loves it!

This blog will be run by the both of us. We will jump on from time to time with lastest fashions, news stories, Hollywood pet gossip and whatever else makes our ears perk up. Just so I can put this out there..Laura is the “writer” of this group..I am the “oh I have ideas and let’s do this girl” My writing skills are scattered and crazy.  Think of Laura as the brains/beauty and I will be the beast..but in Jimmy Choos and alot less hairy.

We also welcome comments and of course photo’s of your little ones. And from time to time we will run contests and let you proud parents brag a bit.

Speaking of bragging I will officially announce the new family member of the Bachmeier household. Meet Javier ” The Javinator” Bachmeier. I had to give him a tough nickname so when Hero and Javi meet it can be like a prize fight match. And in this corner weighing in at 3.5 lbs.. The Javinator!!!

It’s so nice to see you at My Über Blog!  If you’ve been here before, welcome back!  If you’re new to the blog, then you and I are in the same boat so hop aboard and try not to tip this sucker over!  I’m Laura McAvey, the new contributor to this blog!

I thought I’d start things off with a little introduction.  Naturally, I’m going to need to dedicate a big portion of my biography to my canine sidekick, since at My Über Blog IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PETS!

Hero "The Knuckles" McAvey

Hero "The Knuckles" McAvey

This is Hero.  Hero was a rescue dog (of sorts). Hero and I have been together nine short months, but already we have a rich and somewhat complicated history.

Let me just set the scene by admitting this:  when I’d imagined the sort of dog I’d have when I grew up, I pictured a Labrador or a Golden Retriever.  Something big.  Something that shed. Something that panted and smelled like an animal.  Something tough.

Not a Cockapoo.  Nothing, in fact, ending in ‘poo’.  Certainly not a very fluffy, feminine-looking boy dog. Not a dog that could disappear inside a piece of carry-on luggage or a roomy handbag.  Not a dog everyone called ‘she’ despite the presence of a purposeful blue collar and my repeated instance that Hero IS A BOY.

But when I first met Hero, I thought that although he was definitely not what I’d had in mind when I pictured a furry companion, he was nonetheless cute, friendly, and very sweet.  I figured I could adjust to the fact that my dog was a little bit like a hairy accessory.  A little bit pretty.  A little bit fancy.

Turns out, I got neither my much desired Labrador nor the docile cotton ball I’d initially been wooed by.  I was so far off the mark in my assessment of our newest family member that I wasn’t even hitting the board.  Looks can be deceiving.  Our adorable, snow white little polar bear has a major case of dominance aggression, so he’s toting toughness in spades.  Once those adoption papers were signed and the deal was sealed, Hero bared his teeth (literally and figuratively!).

And so Hero ushered in a period in our household marked by multiple vet visits and the employ of a very pricey animal behaviorist.  But we fell in love with him – temper and all – so of course we’ve done all we can to help him work through the aggression and live up to his pet potential.  We’ve even managed to find ways to live harmoniously with our smallest terror.  But never again will I make the mistake of judging a book by its cover!  In the dog world it’s all.  About.  The Attitude.

My dog’s got tons of attitude – does your pet?

That’s where this blog comes in.  Honoring the attitude – the spunk, the zest, the individuality and the hilarity – of our wonderful friends.  As pet parents, we want the best, the coolest, the tastiest, the healthiest for our babies – in short, we want QUALITY!!!  Here I’ll report on the latest products, news, services, hollywood gossip, entertainment, and spoils in the world of pets.  We’ll have polls, contests, prizes, tips, and lots of great photos.  Got a pet with a special place in your heart?  That’s what we’d call an Über pet!!!  Follow this blog, and your cherished lovebug will be in for some real treats!
